Bonnie McMaken fell in love with words early in life. She spent her childhood wandering around magical places like Green Gables, Narnia, and Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. While she still enjoys losing herself in the whimsy of other lands, Bonnie spends most of her time pursuing and writing about things she’s experienced in this world: faith, love, justice, worship, and relationships. A writer with an editor’s eye, Bonnie combines creativity with craft as she enlivens the mundane and explores the divine.
Bonnie’s studies at Wheaton College in Christian Formation and music gave her rich insights about how we learn, how we grow, how we create, and how we express our deepest human emotions. Her first post-college job was at Christianity Today International, where she further unearthed her love for words. As an editorial coordinator there, her work included article research, downloadable resource creation, writing, interviewing, manuscript and query acquisition, and proofreading.
Now as a freelance writer and editor, Bonnie’s written work has appeared in RELEVANT Magazine, Nueu Magazine, Kyria, ChristianBibleStudies.com, SmallGroups.com, RELEVANT.com, and GiftedforLeadership.com. She was also one of the contributing editors for the Today’s Christian Woman Bible in Portuguese.
When she’s not wearing her wordsmith hat, Bonnie enjoys cooking, writing and performing music, leading worship, and the forgotten art of celebration. She lives and laughs alongside her husband, Trevor, and her two lively children, Eleanor and Finn.
